RCRA Brownfields Prevention Initiative
Communities can apply for EPA Brownfields funding to
help address their RCRA sites. The eligibility of RCRA
sites is described on an info sheet at RCRA Sites, and
updated information is available at RCRA Brownfields
Prevention Initiative I US EPA .

The next National Brownfields Conference will be from
May 5-7, 2008 at Detroit Cobo Center. Detroit. Ml.
•	Conference registration is still open. Go to the
registration page to register now!
•	A Transaction Forum will take place on Monday, May
5, 2008, from 10:30 am -12:30 pm at the Cobo Center.
Go to the transaction forum page to register your
properties! Deadline is April 11, 2008.
•	Online registration for the Mobile Workshops and
Walking Tours is now open. Check out the list, and
sign up early - these always fill up!
•	Become an endorser for Brownfields 2008. Endorsers
are companies, organizations and agencies that
officially acknowledge the conference as a premier
national brownfields event. Go to the Endorsers page

Community Energy Challenge:
Promoting Energy Efficiency and Renewables in
New England Cities and Towns
EPA is challenging all New England communities to
save money and reduce air pollution by assessing their
energy use, taking action to improve energy efficiency,
and seeking out renewable energy choices. EPA will
provide technical assistance to every community that
chooses to Take the Challenge!
Massachusetts Smart Growth/Smart Energy
Toolkit
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has published a
new version of its Smart Growth/Smart Energy Toolkit. It
is available online, or a disk can be mailed to you. One
of the new features of this version of the toolkit is a
module on Brownfields redevelopment.

A new private-sector resource is available for
purchase from Rate It Green - a Green Building
guide just released on January 23, 2008. You can
contact Rate It Green at Green Building 101.
The beta version of the SMARTe website is now online.
"Sustainable Management Approaches and
Revitalization Tools - electronic" ("SMARTe") is an
open-source, web-based, decision support system for
developing and evaluating future reuse scenarios for
potentially contaminated land. SMARTe contains
guidance and analysis tools for all aspects of the
revitalization process including planning, environmental,
economic, and social concerns.

This is considered the foremost technical conference
addressing Brownfields Development.
Since 1995, the Engineers' Society of Western
Pennsylvania has presented an annual conference on
the subject of brownfields reclamation. In fact, the ESWP
was in the brownfields conference business even before
the term "brownfields" was commonly used when
referring to environmentally-impaired sites. Visit the

ASSESSMENT CLEANUP &
REDEVELOPMENT EXCHANGE SYSTEM
The "Assessment, Cleanup and Redevelopment
Exchange System" ("ACRES") is an online database for
Brownfields Grantees to electronically submit data
directly to EPA. Go to the ACRES page for more
information, to view the ACRES user guide, to register,
or to access the database.
