Community Energy Challenge: Promoting Energy Efficiency and Renewables in New England Cities and Towns EPA is challenging all New England communities to save money and reduce air pollution by assessing their energy use, taking action to improve energy efficiency, and seeking out renewable energy choices. EPA will provide technical assistance to every community that chooses to Take the Challenge! Massachusetts Smart Growth/Smart Energy Toolkit The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has published a new version of its Smart Growth/Smart Energy Toolkit. It is available online, or a disk can be mailed to you. One of the new features of this version of the toolkit is a module on Brownfields redevelopment. 1 of 2 ------- A new private-sector resource is available for purchase from Rate It Green - a Green Building guide just released on January 23, 2008. You can contact Rate It Green at Green Building 101. The beta version of the SMARTe website is now online. "Sustainable Management Approaches and Revitalization Tools - electronic" ("SMARTe") is an open-source, web-based, decision support system for developing and evaluating future reuse scenarios for potentially contaminated land. Lawrence Convention Center Pittsburgh, PA This is considered the foremost technical conference addressing Brownfields Development. Since 1995, the Engineers' Society of Western Pennsylvania has presented an annual conference on the subject of brownfields reclamation. In fact, the ESWP was in the brownfields conference business even before the term "brownfields" was commonly used when referring to environmentally-impaired sites.
