(SKF) facility was a bearing- manufacturing facility located south of the intersection of Logan Boulevard and Plank Road in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The facility property is occupied by an approximate 225,000 square foot building and is situated on approximately nine acres of land. The facility manufacturing processes included machining, heat treating, grinding, honing, assembling, and packaging. Wastes generated from these manufacturing processes included waste hydraulic oil, water-soluble synthetic coolant, cutting oil, machining chips, and grinding scrap. Operations at this facility began in 1952 and ended in 2006. On July 26, 2004, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined that Current Human Exposures Under Control Environmental Indicators had been met. On July 31, 2008, EPA determined that Migration of Contaminated Groundwater Under Control Environmental Indicator had been met. And, on November 10, 2008, EPA determined that no further corrective action was necessary at the facility except for the implementation and maintenance of institutional controls. The property consists of two parcels, Parcel 1 and Parcel 2. The approximately 4-acre Parcel 2 is currently occupied by the Five Star Suzuki car dealer. Parcel 1 that was used for bearing manufacturing facility has been sold to a developer.
