Warrendale Plating Co. Mars, Pennsylvania The Road to Reuse ~~~ Approximate total acres and current use Approximate Acres Planned for in Reuse: 2 Current Use: Warehouse, workshop, office space This two-acre facility is located in Mars, Pennsylvania. From the 1960s until a fire in 1981, Warrendale Plating Co. used the facility to re-plate chrome bumpers and automotive trim parts. The fire permanently stopped the plating operations at this site. After the fire, the facility underwent renovations to the one story building, turning the building into a warehouse. During the two decades of plating operation, the soil of the facility became contaminated. The facility had two earthen-based surface impoundments that needed remedial action. This action resulted in the excavation and disposal of about 185 tons of sludge and soil between 1986 and 1997. These surface impoundments were backfilled with clean soil and re-graded in October 2000. Post-closure groundwater monitoring did not detect any contaminants of concern beneath the facility and in the nearby Breakneck Creek. Sub technical, Inc. and Ronco International have rented space in the one-story warehouse as a general workshop for maintenance equipment, warehouse, and general office space. www. epa-.jrov/rea3wcmd/correctiveaction.htm For More Information EPA Region 3 Contact: Khai Dao, (215) 814-5497, dao.lchai@epa.gov ------- |
