Background
UGI Utilities, Inc. (UGI) serves approximately 680,000 customers in 45 Pennsylvania counties and
is one of the largest natural gas distribution utility companies in the Commonwealth. UGI is
headquartered in Reading, PA and its natural gas service area includes major portions of the
eastern, central, and northern parts of the state. UGI also operates an electric utility in Luzerne and
Wyoming Counties. UGI has an aggressive pipeline replacement program and plans to replace all
cast-iron pipelines by 2027.

UGI has been reporting cast iron main
replacements to the Natural Gas STAR Program
since 1997. In 2011, UGI Central Penn Gas, Inc.
and UGI Penn Natural Gas, Inc. began reporting
their cast iron main replacements. Since 1997,
these replacements have attributed to an
emission reduction of approximately 56,883
thousand cubic feet per year of emissions from
leaks.

Steel Mains
UGI has been reporting unprotected steel main
replacements to the Natural Gas STAR Program
since 1997. In 2011, UGI Central Penn Gas, Inc.
and UGI Penn Natural Gas, Inc. began reporting
their unprotected steel main replacements. Since
1997, these replacements have attributed to an
emission reduction of approximately 39,930
thousand cubic feet per year of emissions from
leaks.
