The American Cyanamid Company (Cyanamid) operated the facility from 1934 to 1963. In 1963, the facility was sold to Koppers-Pittsburgh Company (KPC). KPC sold the facility to Koppers Company, Inc. The facility has been used for manufacturing chlorinated naphthalene, amino and alkyd resins, resole resins, and Approximate total acres and current use Approximate Acres in Reuse: 301 Current Use: Manufacturing; Planned commercial, residential, mixed-use materials used in the production of foam board. Current manufacturing processes include polyester resins, coating resins and other products. The manufacturing processes have resulted in the contamination of the facility's groundwater with low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and semi- volatile organic compounds (SYOCs). However, the contaminated groundwater has not migrated to any off-site groundwater users. There are no public or community users of groundwater within 4 miles of the facility and there is not a drinking water intake from surface water within 15 miles downstream of the facility. The facility has undergone significant remediation and corrective actions. Approximately 1,225 cubic yards of contaminated soils and seven underground storage tanks have been removed. Also, much of the facility has been paved over. Beazer, Cyanamid, the Pennsylvania Department for Environmental Protection (PADEP), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are working together to evaluate the need for further corrective action. Beazer expects to redevelop the site for mixed commercial and residential use beginning in 2009.
