In 2011, 97 facilities reported 54 million pounds of toxic chemical disposal and releases, a decrease of 3%, or 1.7 million pounds, from 2010. Idaho ranks 20th in the nation for total TRI chemicals reported released. A TRI "release" is defined as the amount of a toxic chemical released, or disposed of, on-site (to air, water, underground injection, landfills, and other land disposal), and the amount transferred off-site for disposal. All releases values in this report are listed in pounds released in 2011.
