Alaska ranks first in the nation for total TRI chemicals reported released. A TRI "release" is defined as the amount of a toxic chemical released, or disposed of, on-site (to air, water, underground injection, landfills, and other land disposal), and the amount transferred off-site for disposal. All releases values in this report are listed in pounds released in 2011.
