Included in New England are: Borough of Naugatuck, CT (for Parcel C South); Town of Newtown, CT (for Fairfield Hills Complex); City of Boston, MA (for 191 Bowdoin Street); City of Boston, MA (for Modern Electroplating/Enam); City of Boston, MA (for Lewis Chemical Property); City of Fitch burg, MA (for Central Steam Plant); City of Lowell, MA (for 86 Fay Street); and Town ofWrentham, MA (for Marra Property). Congratulations to all of the new recipients! Brownfields 2009 Conference New Orleans, Louisiana will be the site for the next National Brownfields Conference, which will be from November 16-18, 2009 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Plan ahead! Upcoming Tips-and-Tricks Sessions ft The half-day outreach sessions for applying for next year's grants are coming up soon! The grant guidelines are changing drastically this year, so these "how-to's" and "tips-and-tricks" are more important than ever! These are for anyone planning on applying for brownfieids funding, and the sessions are put on by the EPA New England Brownfields Section. Three meetings from 9:00am to 12:00pm are planned to give prospective Brownfields grant applicants some of the "tips-and-tricks" to promote successful grant writing. > Monday September 8, 2008 at the Sheraton Harborside Hotel in Portsmouth, NH! > Tuesday September 9, 2008 at the Regency Inn & Conference Center in Westford, MA! > Tuesday September 16, 2008 at Rensselaer in Hartford, CT! ARC ewfteimtf Changes in EPA Brownfields Guidelines EPA modified some key areas of its Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup (ARC) Grant Proposal Guidelines to improve applicants' potential for success through: • New opportunities for assessment applicants; • Streamlined guidelines; and • New proposal requirements, designed to help ensure grantee success. Visit this site for details of the key guideline changes. EPA plans to issue a request for proposals (RFP) in late summer of 2008 for 2009 competitive EPA Brownfields grants. Sustainability Assistance Awards New England has received 2 of the 16 nationwide awards just announced on August 1, 2008. The New England recipients of Technical Assistance for Brownfields Sustainability Pilots are: Urban Edge, Roxbury, MA (for Jackson Square); and Burlington Community and Economic Development Office, Burlington, VT(for the Moran Center). Good work! 1 of 3 ------- RLF Supplemental Grants EPA announced on June 12, 2008 the recipients of a new round of supplemental cleanup Revolving Loan Fund (RLF) awards for Brownfields, with the following from New England: YMCA, Bath, ME City of Bridgeport, CT; City of Bath, ME; City of Brewer, ME; and the NH Department of Environmental Services. Click to see the >ress release. een emediatio Green Remediation Primer The new Green Remediation Primer, a publication from EPA's Brownfields and Land Revitalization Technology Support Center (BTSC), is now available electronically at this web site. More info about EPA's BTSC can be found here. Green remediation is the practice of considering all environmental effects of cleanup actions and incorporating strategies to maximize the net environmental effects of those actions. The sustainable practices emphasize the need to more closely evaluate core elements of a cleanup project such as energy requirements and air emissions. While there have been a number of bills introduced in Congress proposing to extend the Brownfields Tax Incentive, so far, none of the bills has been enacted into law. The 110th Congress has recessed prior to acting on the latest bill, the "Jobs, Energy, Families, and Disaster Relief Act of 2008 (S. 3335)", which included extending the Federal Brownfields Tax Incentive. The bill provides a one-year extension of the current brownfield tax incentive till December 31, 2008, retroactively from when it expired on December 31, 2007.
