September Tips-and-Tricks Sessions
The half-day outreach sessions for applying for next
year's grants are almost behind us already. We had full
houses at our sessions on Monday September 8, 2008
at the Sheraton Harborside Hotel in Portsmouth, NH
and on Tuesday September 9, 2008 at the Regency Inn
& Conference Center in Westford, MA.
> One session left - 9:00am to 12:00pm Tuesday
September 16, 2008 at Rensselaer in
Hartford, CT! If you want to try and squeeze in
at the last moment, please call Rachel Olfato at
(703) 284-7369.
The grant guidelines are changing drastically this year,
so these "how-to's" and "tips-and-tricks" have been more
important than ever! These are for anyone planning on
applying for brownfields funding, and the sessions are
put on by the EPA New England Brownfields Section.
They are planned to give prospective Brownfields grant
applicants some of the "tips-and-tricks" to promote
successful grant writing.
September Webinar Sessions
In case you missed the two meeting
sessions: Tips-and-Tricks "Webinar"
Clu-in sessions are also being
offered. Registration for both dates
is open. These Grant Writing
Workshops are meant to lend better
understanding of the proposal criteria and selection
process for EPA's FY-2009 Brownfields grants. Hit here

"TAB EZ"
Kansas State University, one of EPA's TAB grantees,
has developed a software tool called "TAB EZ" that can
assist communities in putting together their assessment
and cleanup proposals. TAB EZ is available free of
costs to everyone nationwide at the following URL:
htt p ://www ,ta bez. o rq/
While EPA is not endorsing this tool, we want to make
sure that communities know about its availability.

Green Remediation Primer
The new Green Remediation Primer, a publication from
EPA's Brownfields and Land Revitalization Technology
Support Center (BTSC), is now available electronically at
this web site. More info about EPA's BTSC can be
found here.
Green remediation is the practice of considering all
environmental effects of cleanup actions and
incorporating strategies to maximize the net
environmental effects of those actions. The sustainable
practices emphasize the need to more closely evaluate
core elements of a cleanup project such as energy
requirements and air emissions.

Federal Brownfields Tax Incentive
While there have been a number of bills introduced in
Congress proposing to extend the Brownfields Tax
Incentive, so far, none of the bills has been enacted into
law. The 110th Congress has recessed prior to acting on
the latest bill, the "Jobs, Energy, Families, and Disaster
Relief Act of 2008 (S. 3335)", which included
extending the Federal Brownfields Tax Incentive. The
bill provides a one-year extension of the current
brownfield tax incentive till December 31, 2008,
retroactively from when it expired on December 31,
2007. For more information, go to
