We had full houses at our sessions on Monday September 8, 2008 at the Sheraton Harborside Hotel in Portsmouth, NH and on Tuesday September 9, 2008 at the Regency Inn & Conference Center in Westford, MA. > One session left - 9:00am to 12:00pm Tuesday September 16, 2008 at Rensselaer in Hartford, CT! If you want to try and squeeze in at the last moment, please call Rachel Olfato at (703) 284-7369. The grant guidelines are changing drastically this year, so these "how-to's" and "tips-and-tricks" have been more important than ever! These are for anyone planning on applying for brownfields funding, and the sessions are put on by the EPA New England Brownfields Section. They are planned to give prospective Brownfields grant applicants some of the "tips-and-tricks" to promote successful grant writing. September Webinar Sessions In case you missed the two meeting sessions: Tips-and-Tricks "Webinar" Clu-in sessions are also being offered. Registration for both dates is open. These Grant Writing Workshops are meant to lend better understanding of the proposal criteria and selection process for EPA's FY-2009 Brownfields grants. TAR "TAB EZ" Kansas State University, one of EPA's TAB grantees, has developed a software tool called "TAB EZ" that can assist communities in putting together their assessment and cleanup proposals. Brownfields 2009 Conference New Orleans, Louisiana will be the site for the next National Brownfields Conference, which will be from November 16-18, 2009 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. Green Remediation Primer The new Green Remediation Primer, a publication from EPA's Brownfields and Land Revitalization Technology Support Center (BTSC), is now available electronically at this web site. More info about EPA's BTSC can be found here. Green remediation is the practice of considering all environmental effects of cleanup actions and incorporating strategies to maximize the net environmental effects of those actions. The sustainable practices emphasize the need to more closely evaluate core elements of a cleanup project such as energy requirements and air emissions. J New f llampsh ATLANTIC OCEAN Federal Brownfields Tax Incentive While there have been a number of bills introduced in Congress proposing to extend the Brownfields Tax Incentive, so far, none of the bills has been enacted into law. The 110th Congress has recessed prior to acting on the latest bill, the "Jobs, Energy, Families, and Disaster Relief Act of 2008 (S. 3335)", which included extending the Federal Brownfields Tax Incentive. The bill provides a one-year extension of the current brownfield tax incentive till December 31, 2008, retroactively from when it expired on December 31, 2007.
