The Delta County Landfill is a municipally owned and operated landfill
located outside of Escanaba in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Landfill gas
(LFG) estimated to be recoverable in 2013 for collection and utilization is
-225 scfm (50% methane). LFG collection efficiency is estimated at
75%. Utilization of this LFG would result in avoided emissions from
conventional electricity sources, equivalent to preventing emissions of
nearly 4,000 metric tons of C02e per year.
These emission reductions are equivalent to any one of the following
annual environmental benefits for 2014:
~	Annual greenhouse gas emissions from 780 passenger vehicles
~	Carbon sequestered annually by 850 acres of pine or fir forests
~	C02 emissions from 446,500 gallons of gasoline consumed
~	C02 emissions from more than 9,200 barrels of oil consumed
The Delta County Landfill reports that it is currently required to collect
and combust LFG under the Landfill NSPS/EG.

Incentives for LFG Energy
The state of Michigan currently offers some incentives for renewable energy produced
from LFG. Resources available that summarize existing incentives include:
~	The Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energy and Efficiency outlines
incentive programs and funding options for renewable energy projects in
Michigan - www.dsireusa.org.
~	U S EPA LMOP offers a summary of available federal and state incentives for
LFG energy projects as part of its Funding Guide -
http://www.epa.gov/lmop/publications-tools/funding-guide/index.html
~	Michigan has established a Renewable Portfolio Standard which requires
covered entities to generate 10% of their retail electric sales from renewable
sources by 2015 - the Michigan Public Service Commission administers the
program - www.michigan.gov/customergeneration
