Proposed Cleanup Plan for
Clearview landfill
Community Fact Sheet
July 2013
Process At a Glance
What is a Proposed
Cleanup Plan?
STEP 1: EPA announces the proposed cleanup
plan to the public for a 30-day comment period:
•S EPA will place an ad in the local newspaper an-
nouncing the proposed cleanup plan, the comment
period, and the public meeting.
•S EPA will mail a fact sheet to the community sum-
marizing the proposed cleanup plan for the Clearview
Landfill and announcing the dates of the public
comment period and public meeting.
S The proposed cleanup plan will be made available
for public review online, at EPA's regional office and
at the information repository for the community.
STEP 2: EPA accepts public comments on the
proposed cleanup plan for 30 days:
^During the comment period, the public is encour-
aged to submit written comments to EPA.
^During the comment period, EPA will host a public
meeting to present the details of the proposed cleanup
plan to the public and record oral comments. A court
reporter will be present to document the proceedings.
STEP 3: EPA prepares the Responsiveness
Summary:
•SAfter the public comment period ends, EPA will
prepare the "Responsiveness Summary" of the writ-
ten and oral comments the public has made regarding
the proposed cleanup plan and the Agency's re-
sponses to those comments.
After EPA has completed all of its investigations at
a site and all of the cleanup options are developed,
EPA recommends the option it considers best for
the site and provides an opportunity for the public
to evaluate and comment. The proposed cleanup
plan:
•SSummarizes all the cleanup alternatives EPA
evaluated for the site.
^Highlights EPA's preferred cleanup option.
^Includes information on the site history, commu-
nity participation, the nature and extent of the con-
tamination, and the reasonably anticipated future
land uses at the site.
