EPA's Process for Announcing the Proposed Cleanup Plan for Clearview landfill Community Fact Sheet July 2013 Process At a Glance What is a Proposed Cleanup Plan? STEP 1: EPA announces the proposed cleanup plan to the public for a 30-day comment period: •S EPA will place an ad in the local newspaper an- nouncing the proposed cleanup plan, the comment period, and the public meeting. •S EPA will mail a fact sheet to the community sum- marizing the proposed cleanup plan for the Clearview Landfill and announcing the dates of the public comment period and public meeting. S The proposed cleanup plan will be made available for public review online, at EPA's regional office and at the information repository for the community. STEP 2: EPA accepts public comments on the proposed cleanup plan for 30 days: ^During the comment period, the public is encour- aged to submit written comments to EPA. ^During the comment period, EPA will host a public meeting to present the details of the proposed cleanup plan to the public and record oral comments. A court reporter will be present to document the proceedings. STEP 3: EPA prepares the Responsiveness Summary: •SAfter the public comment period ends, EPA will prepare the "Responsiveness Summary" of the writ- ten and oral comments the public has made regarding the proposed cleanup plan and the Agency's re- sponses to those comments. After EPA has completed all of its investigations at a site and all of the cleanup options are developed, EPA recommends the option it considers best for the site and provides an opportunity for the public to evaluate and comment. The proposed cleanup plan: •SSummarizes all the cleanup alternatives EPA evaluated for the site. ^Highlights EPA's preferred cleanup option. ^Includes information on the site history, commu- nity participation, the nature and extent of the con- tamination, and the reasonably anticipated future land uses at the site.
