SETTING:
•	The site and the areas to the south and west
are zoned for industrial land uses. The areas
to the north are zoned for recreational land
uses.
•	Active surrounding land uses include Illinois
State Beach Park to the north, the Midwest
Generation Power Plant to the south, and a
large railroad right-of-way to the west.
•	The site is immediately west of Lake
Michigan.
•	Surrounding population: 0.5 mile, 60 people;
2.5 miles, 47,301 people; 4 miles, 103,642
people.
REMEDIAL STATUS:
•	Remediation of site's former wastewater
ponds and wastewater treatment system is
ongoing.
•	Contaminated soils have been consolidated
and capped on over 100 acres of the larger
340-acre property.

Site Name: johns-Manville Corp. Superfund Site
Size: Approximately 150 acres of a larger 340-acre property
Supported Site Uses: Recreational
Existing Site Infrastructure: Electricity and sewer
Readiness for Use: 1'he site is currently unavailable for use.
EPA anticipates that the entire 150-acre site should be available
for reuse in five years.
Additional Information: The State of Illinois is completing
remediation of 100-acres of land immediately west of the
Superfund site. The City of Waukegan is considering reusing
this land for soccer fields.
