What is a Community Advisory Group? The purpose of the Community Advisory Group, or
CAG, is to ensure that the citizens of the Herculaneum area have the opportunity to provide input
into the cleanup process associated with the Herculaneum Lead Smelter site.
What is the Herculaneum Lead Smelter site? The Herculaneum Lead Smelter site consists of
areas affected by the Doe Run lead smelter operation. The smelter is located at 881 Main Street
in Herculaneum, Missouri. Health and environmental issues related to the site will be addressed
as part of an Administrative Order on Consent signed by EPA, MDNR, and The Doe Run
Resources Corporation.
What does the CAG do? The CAG meets regularly to:
•Get up-to-date information about the status of site activities.
•Discuss community views and concerns about the cleanup process with EPA, MDNR
and other parties involved in the cleanup of the site.
•Review and comment on technical documents and plans related to the environmental
studies and cleanup activities at the site.

Who makes up the CAG? The CAG is made up of representatives of diverse community
interests. Typically, CAGs have about 15-20 members, but size varies from community to
community. CAG membership is voluntary and CAG members should be willing to serve for two
years. The CAG meetings are open to the public.
