Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Comments on the Interagency Science Discussion
Draft IRIS Assessment of Ammonia (Noncancer Inhalation) June 2016
(Date Received June 28. 2016)
General Science Comments:
Thanks for the opportunity to review the Toxicological Review of Ammonia prior to its finalization.
Overall, I did not identify any issues that warranted additional discussion (presuming that the
Preamble will be revised as was discussed at the interagency meeting on Trimethylbenzenes). I had only
one minor correction on the clean version of the draft final document:
• p. ES-4 lines 11-14: "Although Holness et al. (1989) do not report associations between
ammonia exposure and respiratory effects, it is included in the body of epidemiologic studies of
industrial settings because it is informative of the levels below which ammonia causes effects."
This should be revised to "Although Holness et al. (1989) do not report associations between
ammonia exposure and respiratory effects, it is included in the body of epidemiologic studies of
industrial settings because it is informative of the levels bolow above which ammonia causes
effects."
