EPA SMALL BUSINESS INNOVATION RESEARCH PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS *>EPA United States Environmental Protection Agency July 27, 2020 ANNOUNCEMENTS 2020-2021 EPA SBIR Phase I Solicitation Closes Soon The 2020-2021 SBIR Phase I solicitation to develop innovative technologies that protect human health and the environment is now open and closes on August 28, 2020. Be sure to submit your proposals before this date. EPA is calling for small businesses to apply for Phase I awards up to $100,000 to demonstrate proof of concept in the following topic areas: clean and safe water, air quality, land revitalization, homeland security, sustainable materials management and safer chemicals. Attend the SBIR Virtual Road Tour SBA is hosting virtual 2020 SBIR Weeks from August through November. During these virtual events, registrants will hear directly from participating federal agencies about the SBIR/STTR program and have the chance to meet, one-on-one with Federal Program Managers. EPA will be participating in all regions of the virtual road tour. This is a great chance to learn more about the federal SBIR program and determine which agencies are a good fit for your technology. EPA's Small Business Research Innovation Program supports small businesses to develop and commercialize novel environmental technologies that support this mission. PHASE i: Phase I awards are $100,000 for six months for "proof of concept" of the technology. PHASE II: Phase II awards are up to $400,000 for two years to further develop and commercialize the technology. Phase II companies that obtain qualifying third party investments are eligible for a commercialization option of $100,000. EPA SBIR SMALL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT Capro-X, an EPA SBIR Phase I small business out of New York, was selected for the Dairy Farmers of America (DFA) food-focused startup accelerator. During this program, which runs through July 30, Capro- X will receive mentorship and guidance around product development and marketing, connect with potential investors, and participate in a demo day. They will also meet with senior management at DFA to discuss opportunities to implement their WheyAway process in DFA- owned assets. Their innovative WheyAway treatment technology uses naturally occurring, non-GMO microbes to upgrade dairy waste streams into clean water and natural bio-oils.
