The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program accelerates investment in our nation's water infrastructure by providing long-term, low-cost supplemental loans for regionally and nationally significant projects. REGIONAL POTABLE WATER IMPROVEMENTS BORROWER: City of North Miami Beach LOCATION: North Miami Beach, FL WIFIA LOAN AMOUNT: $44.2 million TOTAL WIFIA PROJECT COSTS: $90,2 million POPULATION SERVED BY SYSTEM: 180,000 NUMBER OF JOBS CREATED: 288 jobs PROJECT DESCRIPTION The City of North Miami Beach Regional Potable Water Improvements project will upgrade the water main distribution system and its existing treatment and auxiliary systems at the Norwood Water Treatment Plant. Plant improvements will include replacing aged pipes, reducing transmission main breaks, and securing drinking water supply to meet current and projected 2030 Average Daily Demand and Maximum Daily Demand. PROJECT BENEFITS • Allows the City of North Miami Beach to meet current and projected 2030 Average Daily Demand and current Maximum Daily Demand as required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. • Reduces pressure losses and main breaks occurring throughout the distribution system. • Saves City of North Miami Beach an estimated $11.5 million from financing with a WIFIA loan compared to a bond issuance.
