Supported Site Uses: The site is in commercial industrial, residential public service and
recreational reuse. The site supports retail businesses, industrial operations, multi-family residences, city
and county roads, railroads and railroad right of ways, and a recreational park. Other portions of the site
are available for reuse consistent with institutional controls.
Restricted Use: Institutional controls for the site restrict disturbance of the concrete cap
and subsurface soil 011 a portion of the site, restrict groundwater use, regulate construction of new
groundwater wells and require special zoning ordinances.
Setting:
•	The site includes over 65 disconnected properties in
Adams and Denver Counties, Colorado.
•	In the early 1900s, several ore-processing facilities
operated in Denver, producing radium for commercial
purposes. The site includes the properties where
radioactive residues remained following the end of the
radium industry in the 1920s.
•	Most of the properties remain in continued use. New
reuses have occurred at several of the properties
following cleanup.
•	On-site businesses support over 400 jobs.
•	Residential, industrial, commercial, recreational and open
space land uses surround the various properties at the site.
•	Surrounding population: 0.5 mile, 2,889 people; 2.5 miles,
128,645 people; 4 miles, 316,399 people.
•	Cleanup activities included removal and off-site disposal
of contaminated soil, installation of ventilation systems
and stabilization of contaminated materials.
•	EPA implemented institutional controls at properties
where waste remains in place.
•	The City and County of Denver removed contamination
beneath streets as part of ongoing routine street
maintenance.
•	Operation and maintenance activities and groundwater
monitoring continue.

Remedial Status:
•	EPA and the State divided the properties at the site into 11
geographically-separated portions to simplify the cleanup
process.
•	Cleanup activities began in 1985 and ended in 2006.
