&EPA Sites in Continued Use Wasatch Chemical Co. (Lot 6) Superfund Site 1979 South 7th West, Salt Lake City, Utah 84104 Supported Site Uses: The site is in continued industrial use. Restricted Use: On portions of the site, land use restrictions require notification of building demolition, vapor intrusion risk assessment and mitigation associated with new building constaiction; and groundwater institutional controls prohibit installation of wells. Salt Lake City, Utah Setting: • The approximately 18-acre site includes the area between 700 West Street and the Rio Grande Western Railroad tracks, north of 2100 South Street. • Office buildings, industrial facilities, a warehouse and a water treatment building are located on site. • Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities connects on-site businesses with the public water supply. Sewer and electricity are also available on site. • SuiTounding land uses include a mix of industrial and commercial uses, as well as railroad lines and interstate highways. • Surrounding population: 0.5 mile, 5272 people; 2.5 miles, 98,915 people; 4 miles, 240,390 people. Remedial Status: • Parties completed removal and land fanning of contaminated materials and soil in 1994 and completed treatment of 5,600 tons of contaminated material in 1996. • Site cleanup activities also included monitoring of contaminated groundwater and installation of additional groundwater monitoring wells. • Groundwater monitoring as well as additional site investigations and studies are ongoing at the site.
