Community Update #53 Pompton Lakes Study Area Pompton Lakes, New Jersey Pompton Lake Dredging Community Update August 2017 EPA's 53rd update is to inform the community of the progress of activities related to the dredging that is being performed on the 36-acre portion of the Pompton Lake Study Area known as the Acid Brook Delta (ABD). Activities performed (week of August 14h): ~ Removal of Upland Soil Area A1 - approximately 1 cubic yard of soil ~ Continue hydraulic dredge operation including sediment dewatering and material handling ~ Continue trucking of dredged material to the off-site landfill facility. ~ 161 trucks of material sent to landfill between August 11th and Au- gust 17th with a total of 1486 truckloads to date. ~ Continued perimeter monitoring—data on website: (www.pomptonlakesworks.com/pompton-lake-project/environmental- monitoring/ ~ No exceedances of dust/ mercury vapor/turbidity action levels during monitoring associated with site activities Activities scheduled (week of August 21st): ~ Continue hydraulic dredging operation. ~ Continue sediment dewatering and material handling. ~ Continue load-out and off-site disposal of dredged sediment. ~ Continue perimeter air monitoring and lake turbidity monitoring in accordance with approved Work Plan. ~ Continue routine inspection of site /work areas per approved permits and for safety purposes. Note: Saturday, August 19th: WILL BE maintenance work 8AM until 5PM. NO dredging/water processing activities or sediment loading/trucking. LABOR DAY WEEKEND: NO WORK SATURDAY/SUNDAY/ MONDAY Information has been added to the aforementioned website including analytical results for treated water discharged to Pompton Lake un- der the NJDEP permit and a figure depicting dredging progress. Placement of the eco-layer in Area A, the Island Area and the ABD will also be completed. The work will be performed by The Chemours Company FC, LLC., through its contractor, Sevenson Environmental Services with EPA/NJDEP over- sight.
