A. o Community Update #52 Pompton Lakes Study Area Pompton Lakes, New Jersey Pompton Lake Dredging Community Update August 2017 EPA CLEANUP ACTIVITIES Basic Site Information—2017 The scope of work in 2017 involves hydraulic dredging, processing and off-site disposal of sediment con- taining mainly mercury and lead in a 36-acre area within Pompton Lake called the Acid Brook Delta (ABD). Placement of the eco-layer in Area A, the Island Area and the ABD will also be completed. The work will be performed by The Chemours Company FC, LLC., through its contractor, Sevenson Environmental Services with EPA/NJDEP over- sight. Activities performed (week of August 7th): ~ Continue hydraulic dredge operation including sediment dewatering and material handling. ~ Continue trucking of dredged material to the off-site landfill facility. ~ 149 trucks of material sent to landfill between August 4th and August 10th with a total of 1325 truckloads to date. ~ Continued perimeter monitoring—data on website (http:// www.pomptonlakesworks.com/pompton-lake-project/environmental- monitoring/ ~ No exceedances of dust/ mercury vapor/turbidity action levels during monitoring associated with site activities Activities scheduled (week of August 14th): ~ Continue hydraulic dredging operation. ~ Continue sediment dewatering and material handling. ~ Continue load-out and off-site disposal of dredged sediment. ~ Continue perimeter air monitoring and lake turbidity monitoring in accordance with approved Work Plan. ~ Continue routine inspection of site /work areas per approved permits and for safety purposes. Note: On Saturday, August 12th, there WILL BE maintenance work per- formed from 8AM until 5PM. There WILL NOT BE dredging/water processing activities or sediment loading/trucking. Additional information has been added to the aforementioned website including analytical results from treated water discharged to Pompton Lake under the NJDEP permit as well as a figure depicting dredging progress. Two photos are provided: one shows a view including the hydraulic dredge and the sediment processing equipment.
