Sechan Limestone Industries, lnc« Portersville, Pennsylvania m The Road to Reuse ~~~ Approximate total acres and current use Approximate Acres in Reuse: 50 Current Use: Trailer park This 1,500-acre facility is located in Portersville, Pennsylvania, a predominantly rural area. From the 1940s through the early 1970s, this facility was mainly operated as a limestone quarry, providing limestone for highway construction. The facility began to gradually close-out onsite solid waste management units (SWMUs) once the limestone sources were exhausted. The SWMUs included several onsite landfills, impoundments, and sedimentation ponds. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP) supervised the closure of the SWMUs. As a result of a site visit in April 2001, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) determined that both Environmental Indicators for human exposure and groundwater migration are under control. RCRA Corrective Action activities, which consist of annual groundwater monitoring near the former lagoons, are being supervised by EPA Region 3 with assistance from the State. The site is no longer a mining facility and has been converted to a trailer park. www. epa-.jrov/rea3wcmd/correctiveaction.htm For More Information EPA Region 3 Contact: Khai Dao, (215) 814-5497, dao.lchai@epa.gov ------- |
