SUPPORTED SITE USES:

Commercial property

EXISTING SITE INFRASTRUCTURE:

Electricity, water, sewer and gas are available. The site
is served by active rail and located two miles north of
Interstate 80.

There are three large properties available, Plant 2,
Factory Distribution Center, and Regional Distribution
Center: a total of 2.5 million square feet of existing
structures consisting of 1.7 million square feet of
manufacturing space, including a four-story office
building and minor outbuildings, and approximately
777,000 square feet of warehouse and distribution space.

A company that builds steel towers to support wind
turbines is located in a portion of the former Maytag
plant.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATIONS:

This site is the former manufacturing facility of the

Maytag Corporation.

ABOUT THE SITE:

The site is located approximately 35 miles west of Des

Momes, Iowa.

SETTING:

•	Population in the vicinity of the site: 3,738.

•	The site is located near commercial and residential
areas.

•	TPI Composites, manufacturer of wind turbine blades,
is located in close vicinity to the site.

READINESS FOR USE:

Ready Now: The site is currently available for reuse

(175 acres).

CLEANUP STATUS:

•	EPA is working with Maytag to ensure that the facility
continues to monitor the groundwater and operate the
existing extraction well.

. Institutional controls will be developed in the future to
include environmental covenants/deed restrictions.

. Contaminants of concern at this site include
1,4-dioxane, hexavalent chromium, perchloroethylene,
trichloroethane, and 1,1-dichloroethene in groundwater.
