Community Update #15 Pompton Lakes Study Area Pompton Lakes, New Jersey Upland Soil Areas Excavation/Dredging Community Update August /September 2016 This is EPA's fifteenth update to inform the community of the pro- gress of activities related to that portion of the Pompton Lakes Study Area known as the Upland Soil Areas. (Fig. U-l) as well as the are- as of the lake designated Area A and the Island Area, approximately 3 acres that will be subject to mechanical dredging (Fig. 1). The project site for this phase includes Rotary Park, the woodlands adja- cent to and west of Rotary Park that includes Acid Brook (south of Lakeside Ave) and, the area along the south side of Lakeside Ave- nue moving east to Lakeside Ave. Park as well as Area A and the Island Area (see figures). The project continues to be on schedule. ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF AUGUST 29TH ~ Transported/disposed of 489 loads of impacted material as of September 1st—unchanged from the prior week ~ Evaluation to determine most effective method to excavate Up- lands Soil Area A1 (a small area of approx. 20 cubic yards), which is constrained by a sewer line ~ Fish relocation in scow access channel area completed ~ Mechanical dredging of scow access channel has begun ~ Initiate processing of dredged sediment ~ Continued perimeter monitoring—data on website (http:// www.pomptonlakesworks.com/pompton-lake-project/ environmental-monitoring/ ~ No exceedances of dust/ mercury vapor/turbidity action levels during monitoring associated with site activities UPCOMING ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 5TH ~ Continue mechanical dredging of scow access channel and pro- cessing/loading/off-site disposal of dredged sediment ~ Complete load-out/off-site disposal of impacted soil except for Area A1—awaiting disposal facility approval ~ Continued perimeter monitoring of dust/mercury/turbidity levels ADDITIONAL NOTES: ~ With the upcoming start of the school year and the initiation of processing/load-out/off-site disposal of impacted dredged sedi- ment; traffic control measures will continue including no truck traffic entering/leaving the site at the start and end of the school day ~ Enjoy Pompton Day! Work is being performed by Seven- son Environmental Services, Inc., a contractor for The Chemours Com- pany FC, LLC (Chemours) with EPA/NJDEP oversight.
