EPA SCEP Opportunities

SCEP —
What's That?

Are you a student interested in exploring a
career with EPA and the Federal Govern-
ment but don't know how to
navigate the red tape? Par-
ticipating in the Student Ca-
reer Experience Program
(SCEP) at EPA can give you
the edge you need to get your
foot in the door, SCEP provides students
with internship employment related to their
field of study that provides on-the-job train-
ing for a target position in the Federal Ser-
vice.

Upon completion of at least 640 hours of
work in the program and obtaining their
degree, students receive non-competitive
eligibility for appointment to the Federal
Service, which applies nationwide in all
Federal agencies for 120 days following
graduation.

Positions are available for students at all
degree levels.

•	ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST
TRAINEES conduct analysis of regulations, pro-
grams, and legislation. All majors may apply.

•	PROGRAM ANALYST TRAINEES are profession-
als with strong writing and analytical skills whose
widely varied work can include analysis of environ-
mental programs and regulations, administrative
and resource management, and targeting and data
analysis. All majors may apply,

•	ENVIRONMENTAL or CHEMICAL ENGINEER
TRAINEES provide engineering support for envi-
ronmental programs. Open to engineering majors.

•	PHYSICAL SCIENTIST TRAINEES provide physi-
cal science analysis to support regulations and en-
forcement cases. Open to physical science majors.

•	CHEMIST TRAINEES conduct analytical laboratory
work and perform ecological risk assessments.
Chemistry related majors may apply.

•	BIOLOGIST TRAINEES provide biological exper-
tise in support of regulations and provide risk as-
sessment analysis. Open to biology related majors.

•	TOXICOLOGIST TRAINEES provide laboratory
analysis of samples taken to support emerging fo-
rensic methodologies and provide scientific analy-
sis to support pesticide registration and evaluating
toxic chemical risks. Only graduate students with
toxicology related majors are eligible.

•	INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST
TRAINEES work in data base development, pro-
gramming support,. Open to IT-related majors.

FINANCIAL SPECIALIST TRAINEES provide
financial management and budgetary support to
EPA. Economics, business, accounting, and fi-
nance related majors may apply.

ECONOMIST TRAINEES provide analysis to
assess the economic impacts and risks of new in-
dustrial chemicals and pesticides. Only graduate
economics students may apply.

CRIMINAL INVESTIGATOR TRAINEES will be
given developmental assignments to prepare
them for a career investigating environmental
crimes.
