Introduction

In September 1990, the United States
Environmental Protection Agency
(U.S. EPA), in consultation with the
Wisconsin Department of Natural
Resources (WDNR), selected a plan
for cleaning up the source of
contamination, referred to as the
Source Control Operable Unit
(SCOU), at the Hagen Farm
Superfund site in Dunkirk, Wisconsin.
This progress report describes the
types of activities that have been
conducted or will be conducted for
cleanup of the SCOU which began in
July 1991. A brief description of

investigation activities slated for the
ground-water contamination, referred
to as the Ground Water Control
Operable Unit (GCOU) is described at
the end of the report U.S. EPA
determined that the most efficient way
to handle the investigation and
cleanup of the site was to divide it into
Operable Units. Because the source
of contamination was known, it was
decided that cleanup of the source
should be initiated while further
investigations of the ground water are
being conducted.
