EPA SBIR SMALL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT

Microvi Biotech Inc.. an SBIR-funded small business out of California,
was recently awarded the SBIR Commercialization Option for an
additional $100,000 of support to accelerate commercialization. This
funding comes as a match to third-party investments in collaboration
projects from two water utility companies, Scottish Water and Thames
Water Utilities Ltd., in the United Kingdom. Microvi's innovative
process, ProviTM, uses microorganisms to remove phosphorus and
ammonia from municipal waste water and recover phosphorus as a
valuable by product. Their technology is more energy-efficient and less
expensive than conventional methods.
