Pompton Lake Dredging	

Community Update	July 2017

EPA's 47th update is to inform the community of the progress of activities

related to the dredging that is being performed on the 36-acre portion of

the Pompton Lake Study Area known as the Acid Brook Delta (ABD).

Activities performed (week of July 3rd):

~	Continue hydraulic dredge operation including sediment dewatering
and material handling.

~	Continue trucking of dredged material to the off-site landfill disposal
facility.

~	66 trucks of material sent to landfill between June 30th and July 6th
with a total of 552 truckloads to date.

~	Continued perimeter monitoring—data on website (http://
www.pomptonlakesworks.com/pompton-lake-project/environmental-
monitoring/

~	No exceedances of dust/ mercury vapor/turbidity action levels during
monitoring associated with site activities

Activities scheduled (week of July 10th):

~	Continue hydraulic dredging operation.

~	Continue sediment dewatering and material handling.

~	Continue load-out and off-site disposal of dredged sediment.

~	Continue perimeter air monitoring and lake turbidity monitoring in
accordance with approved Work Plan.

~	Continue routine inspection of site and work areas per approved per-
mits and for safety purposes.

Note:

On Saturday, July 8th, there WILL be work performed from 8AM
until 5PM. There WILL be dredging/water processing activities.
However, there WILL NOT be sediment loading/trucking performed.

Two photos are provided: one showing the hydraulic dredge unit
with the turbidity curtain in the background. The second photo is the
processed dredged sediment being loaded onto a truck for off-site
landfill disposal.

EPA CLEANUP ACTIVITIES
Basic Site Information—2017

The scope of work in 2017 involves
hydraulic dredging, processing and
off-site disposal of sediment con-
taining mainly mercury and lead in a
36-acre area within Pompton Lake
called the Acid Brook Delta (ABD).
Placement of the eco-layer in Area
A, the Island Area and the ABD will
also be completed. The work will
be performed by The Chemours
Company FC, LLC., through its
contractor, Sevenson Environmental
Services with EPA/NJDEP over-
sight.
