A. o Community Update #29 Pompton Lakes Study Area Pompton Lakes, New Jersey Upland Soil Areas Excavation/Dredging Community Update December 2016 EPA CLEANUP ACTIVITIES Basic Site Information The Upland Soil Areas excavation is complete with the exception of one small area (Area Al) totaling ap- proximately 20 cubic yards (CY). Mechanical dredging of approxi- mately 19,300 CY of impacted sedi- ment (containing mercury/lead/other metals) in Area A and the Island Area is in progress. Work is being performed by Sevenson Environmental Ser- vices, Inc., on behalf of The Chemours Company FC, LLC (Chemours) with EPA/NJDEP oversight. ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF DECEMBER 12th ~ Transported/disposed of a total of 1,909 loads of impacted mate- rial (excavated soil/dredged sediment) a/o December 15th ~ Completed dredging of Area A ~ Initiated excavation of soil at Uplands Soil Area Al ~ Processed/staged impacted sediment for off-site disposal ~ Conducted water treatment activities - effluent tank discharge events occurred based on sample results meeting discharge crite- ria in NJDEP permit ~ Continued perimeter monitoring—data on website: http:// www.pomptonlakesworks.com/pompton-lake-project/ environmental-monitoring/ ~ No exceedances of dust/ mercury vapor/turbidity action levels during monitoring associated with site activities UPCOMING ACTIVITIES—WEEK OF DECEMBER 19th ~ Complete excavation of soil in Upland Soil Area Al ~ Complete soil excavation at Area Al, the remaining Uplands Soil Area to be addressed—being completed at this time due to need to address large trees/outfall pipe that require removal ~ Continue processing/load-out/disposal of impacted sediment ~ Continue water treatment activities ~ Continued perimeter monitoring—data on website: http:// www.pomptonlakesworks.com/pompton-lake-project/ environmental-monitoring/ NOTE: ~ No work will be conducted between December 22nd and Janu- ary 2nd in observance of the holiday season. Work will resume on January 3rd.
