EJG2G General Overview

In October 2009, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded funding of $160,000 to each
of five states to conduct specific projects under the State Environmental Justice Cooperative
Agreement (SEJCA) program, now known as the Environmental Justice Government-to-
Government (EJG2G) Program. The purpose of this program is to support and/or create model
government activities that lead to measurable environmental or public health results in
communities disproportionately burdened by environmental harms and risks.

The EJG2G Program was reopened in 2020 and provides funding to support eligible entities to work
collaboratively with underserved communities to further understand, promote and integrate
approaches that provide meaningful and measurable improvements to public health and/or the
environment in those communities. The term "underserved community" refers to a community
with environmental justice concerns and/or vulnerable populations and includes communities of
color and indigenous communities. The awards for selected projects will be in the form of
cooperative agreements because the EJG2G program requires substantial involvement and
interaction between the applicant and EPA.

The Request for Applications (RFA) for the EJG2G Program will be released in January 2023. For
