i rJHU t Brownfields 2022 Assessment Grant Fact Sheet \W J Kansas City, MO EPA Brownfields Program EPA's Brownfields Program empowers states, communities, and other stakeholders to work together to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. A brownfield site is real property, the expansion, redevelopment, or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant. The Small Business Liability Relief and Brownfields Revitalization Act of 2002, as amended by the Brownfields Utilization, Investment and Local Development Act of 2018, was passed to help states and communities around the country clean up and revitalize brownfield sites. Under this law, EPA provides financial assistance to eligible applicants through five competitive grant programs: Multipurpose Grants, Assessment Grants, Revolving Loan Fund Grants, Cleanup Grants, and Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Grants. Additionally, funding support is provided to state and tribal response programs through a separate mechanism. Assessment Grant $500,000 EPA has selected the City of Kansas City for a Brownfields Assessment Grant. Community-wide grant funds will be used to conduct five Phase I and five Phase II environmental site assessments and develop two cleanup plans. Grant funds also will be used to prepare a community site reuse plan, conduct meetings, and prepare outreach materials in English and Spanish. Hie target areas for this grant are 22 Urban Core Opportunity Zones in the City of Kansas City. The priority site is the Parade Park Homes-South site, which consists of four properties including a former large steam laundry plant and dry cleaning facility, a former paint and varnish manufacturer, and 17 buildings with a total of 182 residential townhome units. Assessment Grant $350,000 EPA has selected the City of Kansas City for a Brownfields Assessment Grant. Site-specific grant funds will be used to conduct one Phase I and four Phase II environmental site assessments and develop cleanup plans for the Parade Park Homes - North site. The site consists of four contiguous properties that are 1501 Woodland Ave., 1801 E. 15th Ter., 1519 Garfield Ave., and 1560 E. Garfield Ave., in Kansas City. The site was formerly a gas station, an auto repair garage, and a dry cleaning operation and is adjacent to other former gas stations and garages. Grant funds also will be used to develop a brownfields resource roadmap and conduct community outreach activities.
