Overview of Indiana's Planned Activities

Indiana seeks to develop plans to advance post-consumer materials management and decrease the
disposal of valuable materials throughout the state. Indiana will develop a statewide materials
management plan, focusing on a transition from recycling and disposal to reducing the impacts of
materials choices on our environment and natural resources. The plan will include guides to establish
convenient, inclusive access to recycling, organics management, waste reduction opportunities, and
other disposal options. Indiana also will provide funding for local communities and county solid
waste management districts to develop local materials management plans based on guidance from
the statewide materials management plan. Materials management activities will include managing
recyclables, including organics, tires, wood, concrete, and other materials that typically are landfilled.

SWIFR Grants for States and Territories

The 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides the largest EPA investment in recycling in 30 years to
support National Recycling Strategy implementation and build a circular economy for all. As part of
the Investing in America agenda, this funding can be used to develop or update plans to advance
post-consumer materials management, implement those plans, and to improve data collection
efforts. These grants also advance the Justice^ Initiative, which aims to ensure that 40% of the
overall benefits of certain Federal investments flow to disadvantaged communities that are
marginalized, underserved, and overburdened by pollution.

EPA will make the award to Indiana once all legal and administrative requirements are satisfied.
