Overview of Mississippi's Planned Activities Mississippi will gather data and information concerning key elements of material recovery and recycling, including recycling infrastructure, cost analysis, economic impact from recycling, and materials management best practices. To implement recommendations based on the study results, Mississippi will organize and conduct meetings with staff, local government program leaders, and recycling business and industry professionals to receive input. Participants will collaborate to determine which recommendations are most needed and have the best potential for success. To implement these best practices, Mississippi will improve messaging through a statewide recycling campaign, update websites to include recycling information, and develop state-specific hub and spoke models for different regions of the state. SWIFR Grants for States and Territories The 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides the largest EPA investment in recycling in 30 years to support National Recycling Strategy implementation and build a circular economy for all. As part of the Investing in America agenda, this funding can be used to develop or update plans to advance post-consumer materials management, implement those plans, and to improve data collection efforts. These grants also advance the Justice^ Initiative, which aims to ensure that 40% of the overall benefits of certain Federal investments flow to disadvantaged communities that are marginalized, underserved, and overburdened by pollution.
