The site includes a six-acre property where a waste processing facility that accepted various wastes for recovery and disposal was located. About 375,000 gallons of hazardous substances were stored on site in tanks, drums and tank trailers. The facility shut down in 1980 in response to a court order. Some company officials received fines and jail terms for illegally dumping hazardous waste. From 1979 to 1980, drums and contaminated soil were removed. The property is now vacant. A cleanup plan for on-property soil and shallow groundwater has been implemented. Contact with contaminated soil has been prevented and contaminated shallow groundwater has been contained. EPA issued a final cleanup plan to address contaminated deep and off-property groundwater in September 2012 and is overseeing its implementation. Back to the Profile for this Site AdministrativeRecords srNanies contaminantsof Concern ()]ierableUnits The chemical substances (i.e., hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants) isted below were identified as contaminants of concern (COC) for the site. ?OCs are the chemical substances found at the site that the EPA has determined )ose an unacceptable risk to human health or the environment. These are the substances that are addressed by cleanup actions at the site. Identifying COCs is a process where the EPA identifies people and ecological resources that could be exposed to contamination found at the site, determines the amount and type of contaminants present, and identifies the possible negative human health or ecological effects that could result from contact with the contaminants. see glossary for definitions of contaminated media and operable units (OUs) » The following ATSDR Profile links exit the site £ Area 71-55-6 79-34-5 CAS Contaminant ## Name 1,1,1 -TRICHLOR OETHANE 1,1,2,2-TETRACH LOROETHANE Contaminated Media Ground Water Ground Water ATSDR Profile )R Profile b 5-34-3 1,1-DC A 75-34-3 1,1-DC A Ground Water s oil of Site More Found Information (OH) OFF-SITE (02) OFF-SITE (02) FINAL REMEDY ATSDR Profile (03) INTERIM REMEDY (01) 4TCDR Profile Page 4 of 9 https://cumulis.epa.gov/supercpad/SiteProfiles/index.cfm?fuseaction=second.Contams&id=0200431 1/6 ------- 9/24/2016 Superfund Site Profile | Superfund Site Information | US EPA CAS ## '75-35-4 75-35-4 l20-82-1 Contaminant Name 1, l-DICHLOROE THYLENE 1, l-DICHLOROE THYLENE 1,2,4-TRICHLOR OBENZENE Contaminated Media Ground Water Soil Ground Water 107-06-2 1,2-DCA Groundwater 1,2-DICHLOROE 107-06-2 THANE 1,2-DICHLOROE 107-06-2 THANE Soil ,2-DICHLOROE Ground Water 540-59-0 THENE j 156-59-2 1,2-c-DCE 123-91-1 1,4-DIOXANE AROCLOR-1248 Soil 309-00-2 ALDRIN 53469- 2, g AROCLOR-1242 Sludge 53469- ^ g AROCLOR-1242 Soil 12672- 29-6 11097- 69-1 11097- 69-1 11096- 82-5 7440-38- 2 Soil Ground Water Ground Water Soil AROCLOR-1254 Groundwater AROCLOR-1254 Soil AROCLOR-1260 Soil ARSENIC Ground Water 7440-38- 7440-38- ARSENIC ARSENIC 71-43-2 BENZENE 71-43-2 BENZENE Soil Soil Ground Water Ground Water More Information IT SDR Profile vTSDR Profile -iTVO Area of Site Found (OU) OFF-SITE (02) OFF-SITE (02) FINAL REMEDY (03) FINAL REMEDY (03) OFF-SITE (02) OFF-SITE (02) ATSDR Profile OFF-SITE (02) FINAL REMEDY \' )R Profile (03) FINAL REMEDY (03) OFF-SITE (02) OFF-SITE (02) OFF-SITE (02) ATSDR Profile ATSDR Profile ATSDR Profile OFF-SITE (02) ATSDR Profile OFF-SITE (02) ATSDR Profile OFF-SITE (02) ATSDR Profile ATSDR Profile ATSDR Profile OFF-STTE (02) OFF-SITE (02) INTERIM REMEDY \i l-DR Profile (01) OFF-SITE (02) OFF-SITE (02) FINAL REMEDY ATSDR Profile (03) ATSDR Profile ATSDR Profile Page 5 of 9 https://cumulis.epa. gov/supercpad/SiteProfiles/index.cfm?fuseaction=second.Contams&id=0200431 2/6 ------- 9/24/2016 Superfund Site Profile | Superfund Site Information | US EPA CAS ## Contaminant Name Contaminated Media 71-43-2 BENZENE Soil 92-87-5 BENZIDINE Soil 205-99-2 BENZO(B)FLUO RANTHENE . CAS builds and maintains the largest and most current database of chemical substance information in the world. These chemical substances are labeled with CAS Registry Numbers® (CASRNs or CAS Numbers) and are used internationally as unique numeric identifiers for a single substance. They have no chemical significance and, because they are widely used, are a link to a wealth of information about a specific chemical substance. They are provided here for reference purposes to hopefully aide you in researching the respective chemical. For more information, visit the CAS Web sit About AT SDR The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. ATSDR is charged under the Superfund law (CERCLA) to assess the presence and nature of health hazards at specific Superfund sites, to help prevent or reduce further exposure and the illnesses that result from such exposures, and to expand the knowledge base about health effects from exposure to hazardous substances. ATSDR maintains a series of fact sheets and profiles about contaminants of concern commonly found at Superfund sites. Links to these resources are provided above when available. For more information, visit the ATSDR Web site. About EPA's IRIS The Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS), prepared and maintained by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA), is an electronic database containing information on human health effects that may result from exposure to various chemicals in the environment. IRIS was initially developed for EPA staff in response to a growing demand for consistent information on chemical substances for use in risk assessments, decision-making and regulatory activities. The information in IRIS is intended for those without extensive training in toxicology, but with some knowledge of health sciences. For more information, visit the EPA IRIS Web site. About EPA's SRS The Substance Registry System (SRS) is the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) central system for information about regulated and monitored substances. The system provides a common basis for identification of chemicals, biological organisms, and other substances listed in EPA regulations and data systems, as well as substances of interest from other sources, such as publications. The system does not provide health hazard information at this time. For more information, visit the EPA SRS Web site.
