URBANWATERS A Partnership for Restoring Urban Waterways and Revitalizing Communities Funding Opportunity: 10-Minute Walk Planning Grant and Technical Assistance Applications are due March 9. The National Recreation and Park Association is offering grants and technical assistance to support planning efforts that help cities increase access to high- quality parks within a 10-minute walk. Selected cities will receive ongoing technical assistance, access and technical support for planning and mapping tools, peer-to- peer support and networking opportunities, and national visibility. The main applicant must be a local government park and recreation agency, (e.g., municipal park and recreation department, tribal recreation department, park district, etc.). The Mayor of the city applying must be signed on to the 10-Minute Walk Campaign and provide a statement of support for this application. At least 2 partners (outside of parks and recreation) must partner on this project and provide signed statements of support. Training Opportunity: Accessibility Guidelines for Parks and Outdoor Recreation Areas of NWI • Tuesday, March 20th, 2018 - 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM Central • Location: NIRPC 6100 Portage, IN 46368 • Cost: $25 (includes lunch), registration required The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and NIRPC are teaming up to provide this training designed to give learners a greater understanding of "program access" and the application of the accessibility standards to the unique outdoor recreation opportunities of Northwest Indiana. Discussion will include the interplay of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Architectural Barriers Act for federal, state, municipal, and cooperative partner facilities. The training will focus on the accessibility of outdoor recreation spaces for people with disabilities such as picnic areas, beaches, scenic viewing areas, paddling/boating and fishing facilities, bike paths, and trails. Next NWI Urban Waters Meeting April 5,2008 The next NWI Urban Waters Partnership meeting will be held jointly with NIRPC-EMPC on Thursday April 5, 2018 at 9:00am ------- at NIRPC. The tentative agenda includes a presentation from and discussion with Carl Wodrich on IDNR's new in-lieu fee program for stream and wetland mitigation. The Northwest Indiana Urban Waters Partnership focuses on the Lake Michigan watershed in Lake, LaPorte and Porter Counties, Indiana. Urban Waters works to connect urban communities, particularly those that are overburdened or economically distressed, with their waterways by improving coordination among federal agencies and state and local partners. The goals are to improve the Nation's water systems and to promote their economic, environmental and social benefits. ------- |
