Guidelines for Reporting Ammonia Spills in Nebraska EPA Region 7 This is only a guide and does not cover all spill reporting requirements. Ammonia users and manufacturers should review this sheet and the regulations before a spill occurs. Additional information on reportable quantities for other chemicals and information about the reporting requirements can be found in the regulations, or web sites and contacts on the back of this sheet. Always remember to call your local responders first. Local Government Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) or Local Emergency Responder Usually this is 9-1 -1 or it may be listed in the front of the local phone book 2. State of Nebraska Spill/release notifications are to be reported by telephone: Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ): (877) 253-2603 After business hours, Weekends and Holidays: Nebraska State Patrol: (402) 471-4545 When a release (spill) meets or exceeds the reportable quantity of a hazardous or extremely hazardous substances by federal requirements, a report to NDEQ satisfies reporting requirements to the State Emergency Response Commission (SERC) according to Section 304 of EPCRA of the Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA) Title III (40 CFR Part 355). In these instances, the LEPC must also be notified in the county or counties likely to be affected by the spill. For releases of flammable liquids from tanks or other potential fire and explosion hazards, the regional/local State Fire Marshal Fuels Safety Division must be notified.
