Introduction to C-FERST Maps

C-FERST maps allow users to view map layers that contain data on key community characteristics such as:
routes and sources of potential exposures; estimated pollutant concentrations, exposures and potential risks
from pollution; demographic characteristics; and other key features such schools and roads.

The map layers are displayed in C-FERST using an ArcGIS Online map viewer, shown below, which offers tools to:

•	view and navigate the provided map layers;

•	search for and add more map layers;

•	access metadata and links for downloading map layers; and

•	print the maps you generate.

This guide will first describe the basic features of the map viewer and then provide instructions on how to use C-

FERST Maps.

To view the maps in full screen, click the green "View Map in Full Screen" button on the C-FERST Maps page.

Important Notes!

Both the map layer heading (map service) and the individual layers of the map must be checked for
the individual map layers to be displayed.

Different map services are displayed and different spatial scales. You will need to zoom in closer to
view some layers.

You can view layers independently or overlay multiple layers at a time. Overlaying information on
maps should not be used to establish causal relationships. You may need to adjust the
transparency to view layers that might be covered by color shading or patterns.

To view the legend for all layers that are displayed, click on the legend button.

Different layers will have different options in this drop down menu, but two important and useful
features are:

Transparency, which allows you to adjust transparency of layers so that basemap features like roads
are easier to see; and

Description, which allows you to view the map metadata description and has links for

saving/downloading the map layer (see below).
