EPA Mossville Draft Site Inspection Report
In responding to comments received on the Draft Site Inspection for Mossville, Calcasieu Parish,
Louisiana, EPA Region 6 reviewed and considered all written comments submitted and to the
extent possible responded to community concerns expressed during the Community Meeting of
January 20th, 2011. EPA Region 6 added language to Section 8.4 Air Migration Pathway to
address the community's concerns regarding air quality.
Comments from Wilma Subra,
1. In the conclusion section it is stated "Fish in the pond are likely to exceed health based
limits for dioxin." On page 12 it is documented that the public indicated that residents
catch and consume fish from the ponds. There needs to be a recommendation that
additional fish testing for dioxins be performed and posting of the ponds occur based on
the testing results.
EPA acknowledges that the single fish tissue sample was above a screening level, but
within the acceptable EPA risk range. Sediment samples taken from the pond were not
elevated and would not contribute to further accumulation of dioxin in fish tissue. As
concentrations are within a acceptable risk, EPA does not plan any follow up actions.
