Did You ISSUE #2 (Feb-99) Federal Facilities Factsheet EPA - REGION 6, 6EN-XP - 1445 Ross Avenue - Dallas, Texas 75202-2733 ^Web_Site^wwWjegajgov^arthlr6/6en^g/enxg4bjhtm Did You Know?: EPA - Region 6 has developed tools using a Geographical Information System (GIS) that allows the region to evaluate environmental sensitive areas that may be effected by environmental alterations (e.g. construction, land clearing, hazardous materials spills, etc.). The GIS tools can characterize residential or ecological communities and watersheds. GIS uses data from various sources, such as Census; soil and water, U.S.G.S. data, climate information, State water quality reports, land use/fragmentation assessments, and socio-economic demographics such as household income, at risk populations, or proximity of Region 6 residents to pollution sources. The analysis is currently used in environmental justice, enforcement targeting, NEPA, Federal facilities, lead abatement, RCRA and other EPA programs. * Federal Facilities GIS Seminar April 20, 1999.
