The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program accelerates investment in our nation's water infrastructure by providing long-term, low-cost supplemental loans for regionally and nationally significant projects. WATER TREATMENT PLANT EXPANSION BORROWER: City of Pflugerville LOCATION: Pflugerville, Texas WIFIA LOAN AMOUNT: $52,049,683 TOTAL WIFIA PROJECT COSTS: $106,223,844 POPULATION SERVED BY PROJECT: 76,000 people NUMBER OF JOBS CREATED: 325 jobs PROJECT DESCRIPTION The Water Treatment Plant Expansion project will expand the City of Pflugerville's drinking water system capacity to meet projected demand and improve treatment processes to address water quality concerns. The project will upgrade the raw and finished water pump stations, install new pretreatment, filtration, and solids handling technologies, and provide a more efficient disinfection process. Together, these improvements will help the system return to compliance with the Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule and increase overall system resiliency. By borrowing from the WIFIA program, the City of Pflugerville will be able to accelerate other capital improvement projects for its system. PROJECT BENEFITS • Increases water treatment plant treatment capacity to from 17.7 million gallons per day to 30 million gallons per day to meet projected water demand through 2.050. • Supports compliance with state and federal regulatory standards. • Saves the City of Pflugerville approximately $13.2 million by financing with a WIFIA loan.
