PROGRAM The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program accelerates investment in our nation's water infrastructure by providing long-term, low-cost supplemental loans for regionally and nationally significant projects. CITY OF EMPORIA PROJECT NAME: Water and Sewer Infrastructure Improvement Program LOCATION: Emporia, VA INVITED WIFIA LOAN AMOUNT $5 million POPULATION SERVED BY PROJECT: 5,346 PROJECT TYPE: Combined PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Water and Sewer Infrastructure Improvement Program will include: 1) installation of a new treatment process for manganese removal; 2) replacement of several water and sanitary sewer lines; and 3) construction of new sewer lines to the Norwood Industrial Park, The purpose of the projects is to protect community health and support economic development by installing a new treatment process for manganese and expanding sanitary sewer services. 25 million in 20 states Selected projects must submit an application for a WIFIA loan, pass a creditworthiness assessment, negotiate a mutually agreeable term sheet, and execute a credit agreement to receive WIFIA funding. An invitation to apply indicates that EPA believes the selected projects will be able to attain WIFIA loans.
