EGLE requested EPA assistance at the site in December 2019 when yellow-green liquid containing toxic chemicals from Electro-Plating Services seeped from the former business onto the shoulder of 1-696 (see photo below). Contaminants at the site include hexavalent chromium, trichloroethylene. or TCE, cyanide, and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, known as PFAS. Green-yellow liquid seeping onto 1-696 initiating EPA's December 2019 response. Since EG EE's request, EPA controlled the seep of contamination; conducted an extensive site investigation; evaluated treatment options; installed a treatment system; collected 353,879 gallons of contaminated groundwater and transported it off-site for treatment and disposal; and re-opened most traffic areas. gjgg Virtual Public Meeting EPA and EGLE will host a virtual public meeting Tuesday, January 26, 2021 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. To attend online meeting register at: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN euNQ81WTSBuvZOgp-ZONaO. This phase will be conducted by EGLE, who will continue to maintain the groundwater treatment system and conduct quarterly sampling to ensure its effectiveness. It is anticipated that once legal proceedings are complete, the former EPS building can be removed, and the source of the contamination can be addressed. EPA will return in the spring to remove the interceptor trench and repair the service drive. Morning safety meeting photographed in July 2020. EPA will continue to maintain documents related to work conducted on its website: www.epa.gov/mi/electro-plating- services-i696-release-site. Data collected during EPA's response will remain available at a link on the website found under "Data" and "Sampling Information and Interactive Mapping."
