PROGRAM The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program accelerates investment in our nation's water infrastructure by providing long-term, low-cost supplemental loans for regionally and nationally significant projects. CITY OF SAN DIEGO PROJECT NAME: Pure Water San Diego Program Phase 1: North City Project LOCATION: Sari Diego, CA INVITED WIFIA LOAN AMOUNT $74 million POPULATION SERVED BY PROJECT: 1,430,000 PROJECT TYPE: Water Reuse PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Construction of Phase 1-North City of San Diego's multi-year Pure Water program will use proven technology to clean non-potable reused/recycled water into safe, high quality drinking water and provide one-third of the City's water supply by 2035. EPA closed a $614M WIFIA loan with the City for this project in 2018 and the City is seeking additional funding. The purpose of this project is to provide a reliable, sustainable supply sourced from reused/recycled water, reduce the need for imported water, and divert wastewater flows away from the Point Loma ocean discharge plant.
