Aquatic Resources Clue Checklist Use this checklist as a guide to help recognize signs that aquatic resources (including wetlands) may be present on a property. ~ Do NWI maps show wetlands on or near the property? Also check local state and county map resources. (http://www.fws.gov/wetlands/Data/Mapper.html) ~ Are any ponds, lakes or streams present? ~ Does the topography of the site have any low spots where water could collect? ~ Are any ditches or channels present? ~ Are there any visual changes in vegetation growth patterns (places without vegetation, stunted growth, stressed looking plants etc.)? ~ Are water lines visible on tree trunks or woody plant stems? ~ Are there water stained leaves or flattened vegetation? ~ Is there a rotten egg smell coming from the ground? ~ Can you identify any plants known to grow in wetlands in your region? (National Wetland Plant List: http://rsgisias.crrel.usace.army.mil/NWPL/) Any of the above clues could signify the presence of a wetland or aquatic resource on site and may be an indication that further, specialized review is warranted. A fuil delineation by a qualified aquatic resource professional would be required to confirm or deny presence of aquatic resources. Aquatic Resources Clue Checklist 1 ------- |
