A. o Community Update #34 Pompton Lakes Study Area Pompton Lakes, New Jersey Pompton Lake Dredging Community Update April 2017 EPA CLEANUP ACTIVITIES Basic Site Information—2017 The scope of work in 2017 involves hydraulic dredging, processing and off-site disposal of sediment con- taining mainly mercury and lead in a 36-acre area within Pompton Lake called the Acid Brook Delta (ABD). Placement of the eco-layer in Area A, the Island Area and the ABD will also be completed. The work will be performed by The Chemours Company FC, LLC., through its contractor, Sevenson Environmental Services with EPA/NJDEP over- sight. The dredging work is scheduled to com- mence in the Spring 2017, but has yet to start. Preparatory activities underway since January are related to the fact that the method of dredging to be performed in 2017 (hydraulic dredging) is different than the dredging performed in 2016 (mechanical dredging). Preparatory activities currently underway (week of April 3rd): ~ Completion of application of ecological layer in Area A. ~ Turbidity monitoring during placement of eco-layer in Area A. ~ Continued installation of sediment processing and water treat- ment equipment needed for 2017 work. ~ Continuation of turbidity curtain installation around the ABD. ~ Clearing of debris in/around bridge above Acid Brook. ~ Securing permit modifications addressing changes in the sedi- ment treatment processes ~ Continue routine inspection of site and work areas per approved permits and for safety reasons. Preparatory activities scheduled (week of April 10th): ~ Complete installation of turbidity curtain around ABD. ~ Continue installation of sediment processing and water treatment equipment needed for 2017 work. ~ Bathymetric surveying. ~ Initiate fish relocation. ~ Continue routine inspection of site and work areas per approved permits and for safety purposes.
