PROGRAM The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program accelerates investment in our nation's water infrastructure by providing long-term, low-cost supplemental loans for regionally and nationally significant projects. UNION SANITARY DISTRICT PROJECT NAME: Enhanced Treatment and Site Upgrade Phase 1 Projects LOCATION: Union City, CA INVITED WIFIA LOAN AMOUNT $198 million POPULATION SERVED BY PROJECT: 356,823 PROJECT TYPE: Wastewater PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Enhanced Treatment and Site Upgrade Phase 1 Projects will consist of a combination of projects to be constructed in three phases: 1) aeration basin modifications and the replacement of existing buildings; 2) secondary clarifier construction and new chlorine disinfection and effluent pumping facilities; and 3) existing secondary clarifier retrofitting. The purpose of these projects is to address aging infrastructure, upgrade nutrient removal to address water quality in the San Francisco Bay, and improve infrastructure resiliency to manage wet weather.
