PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Silicon Valley Clean Water's RESCU Program will rehabilitate aging wastewater infrastructure
and construct new facilities to improve the system's reliability and protect the San Francisco
Bay. The program will include constructing a 3.3-mile gravity pipeline, replacing four pump
stations, and building a new preliminary treatment facility. As a result, the system will switch to a
renewable energy source (biogas) to power pumping, be able to handle future wet weather flows of
up to 108 million gallons per day, and reduce electricity and chemical use.

PROJECT BENEFITS

•	Reduces the likelihood of spills and discharges of untreated sewage to the surrounding
environment.

•	Ensures the reliable operation of the overall wastewater conveyance system by
improving and replacing existing wastewater infrastructure.

•	Helps meet future regulatory requirements for nutrient discharges into the San
Francisco Bay.

•	Saves ratepayers $43 million by financing the project with a WIFIA loan.

•	Re-execution of the WIFIA loan in 2020 saves Silicon Valley ratepayers an additional $55
million.
