PROGRAM The Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program accelerates investment in our nation's water infrastructure by providing long-term, low-cost supplemental loans for regionally and nationally significant projects. HOWARD COUNTY PROJECT NAME: Ellicott City Safe & Sound Plan LOCATION: Ellicott City, MD INVITED WIFIA LOAN AMOUNT $83 million POPULATION SERVED BY PROJECT: 326,286 PROJECT TYPE: Stormwater PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Ellicott City Safe & Sound Plan is a compilation of multiple projects in the Tiber-Hudson watershed that will construct four dry stormwater mitigation ponds, install two 10-ft diameter pipes, and implement other miscellaneous West End pipe and channel improvements. The purpose of these projects is to better mitigate stormwater and keep more water off Main Street. NUMBER OF PEOPLE IMPACTED: 25 million in 20 states Selected projects must submit an application for a WIFIA loan, pass a creditworthiness assessment, negotiate a mutually agreeable term sheet, and execute a credit agreement to receive WIFIA funding.
