Community Update #33
Pompton Lakes Study Area
Pompton Lakes, New Jersey

Pompton Lake Dredging

Community Update	March 2017

EPA's 33rd update is to inform the community of the progress of
activities related to the upcoming dredging that will be performed on
that 36-acre portion of the Pompton Lakes Study Area known as the
Acid Brook Delta (ABD). This work is scheduled to commence in
the Spring 2017.

Since January, preparatory activities have been underway on-site to
support the dredging that will be performed during 2017. Some of
these preparatory activities are related to the fact that the method of
dredging to be performed in 2017 (hydraulic dredging) is different
than the dredging performed in 2016 (mechanical dredging).

Preparatory activities performed/underway include:

~	Installation of equipment needed for 2017 work.

~	Complete site reconfiguration (e.g. internal site roads/installing
equipment) to accommodate hydraulic dredging .

~	Installation of an energy supply to the site for sediment pro-
cessing equipment to support hydraulic dredging.

~	Pre-construction water activities such as sampling for waste
characterization purposes required by offsite landfill and bathy-
metric surveying.

~	Activities associated with preparing the ABD area for dredging
such as installation of a turbidity curtain and fish relocation.

~	Continue routine inspection of site and work areas per approved
permits and for safety purposes.

~	Modification of New Jersey Department of Environmental Pro-
tection permits to be consistent with changes in the sediment
treatment processes.

~	Updating the implementation schedule for 2017 work.

EPA will be holding our next Public Availability session on March
30, 2017 at the Carnevale Center located at 10 Lennox Avenue
from 7:00PM until 9:00PM. Dredging will not commence prior
to the Public Availability session.

We will update the community on the scope and schedule of dredg-
ing of Pompton Lake to be performed in 2017 as well as a status up-
date on other aspects of the environmental clean-up.
