Community Update #72 Pompton Lakes Study Area Pompton Lakes, New Jersey Pompton Lake Dredging Community Update March 2018 EPA CLEANUP ACTIVITIES Basic Site Information—2018 The scope of work in 2018 involves placement of the eco-layer in the Island Area and the ABD as well as site restoration. Hydraulic dredging, processing and off-site disposal of sediment containing mainly mercury and lead in a 36-acre area within Pompton Lake called the Acid Brook Delta (ABD) is complete. The work will be performed by The Chemours Company FC, LLC., through its contractor, Sevenson Environmental Services with EPA/ NJDEP oversight. EPA is resum- ing the use of this format for providing a status update as the level of activity for this season '.s work is about to increase. Activities performed (week of March 12th): ~ Continued demobilization/disassembly of equipment. ~ Continued mobilization of equipment associated with the next phase of work—ecological layer placement. ~ Turbidity/dust/mercury monitoring completed— data on website: (www.pomptonlakesworks.com/pompton-lake-project/environmental- monitoring). Activities scheduled (week of March 19th): ~ Complete demobilization/disassembly of equipment. ~ Complete mobilization of equipment and materials to initiate placement of ecological layer. ~ Continue routine inspection of site work areas per approved permits and for safety purposes. Note: HYDRAULIC AND MECHANICAL DREDGING ARE COMPLETE. THIS PHASE OF WORK IS "CLEAN" WORK MEANING THAT THE PLACEMENT OF THE ECOLOGICAL LAYER AND SITE RESTORATION DO NOT INVOLVE THE HANDLING OR TRANSPORT OF CONTAMINATED SEDIMENT. THERE WILL BE INCREASED TRUCK TRAFFIC DURING THIS PHASE DUE TO THE DELIVERY OF ECOLOGICAL MATERIAL (i.e. SAND). TRAFFIC CONTROLS WILL BE IN PLACE. EPA WILL CONTINUE ITS PRESENCE AT BOROUGH HALL ON THURSDAYS FROM 10AM UNTIL 4PM.
