Meeting Summary- January 25, 2021

Chief Data Officer (CDO) Updates

•	Information Technology Portfolio Review (ITPR) Status

o The CDO released a summary of the takeways from data discussions conducted in 2020 as a part
of the ITPR process.

o The FY2021 ITPR will include questions that capture resource expenditures on data
management.

•	The Data Inventory Subcommittee will hold a kick-off meeting in February.

•	The Regulated Facilities Project group will soon begin phase two, which focuses on how EPA is using
facility data to meet business needs.

Data Skills Assessment Update

•	The Data Skills Subcommittee is progressing with the Data Skills Assessment.

•	The Pilot launched on January 19, 2021.

•	The agency-wide Data Skills Assessment is expected to launch in March.

•	The Subcommittee will gather feedback on the survey from Pilot participants and adjust the survey
accordingly.

Schedule for Developing Learning Agenda

•	The CDO reviewed what a Learning Agenda is, and the steps required to develop and implement a
Learning Agenda.

•	The workgroup is currently developing a stakeholder outreach approach.

•	Next steps include building a framework, engaging with stakeholders and drafting the Learning Agenda.

Metadata COTS Analysis Update

•	Progress this month:

o The Workgroup developed a draft of the evaluation criteria, gathered stakeholder input on the
criteria, weighted the value of each criterion and developed an initial list of tools for
consideration.

•	Next steps:

o The Workgroup expects to finalize the evaluation criteria and begin hosting vendor
demonstrations.

Data Success Story: How's My Waterway

•	A representative from the Office of Water (OW) presented on the How's My Waterway system,
including the purpose of the system, the development process, the IT architecture, and their approach
to managing data received from a variety of sources.
